Who we are

Four Legs Good NY NJ Inc. (“Four Legs Good,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit animal rescue organization based in Pomona, New York. We operate this website at fourlegsgoodnynj.org to facilitate adoptions, volunteer engagement, donations, and community outreach.

What information we collect

We collect information you give us directly and information that is automatically collected when you visit our site.

Information you give us directly:

• Contact form submissions: name, email address, subject category, subject, and message content.
• Adoption applications: name, contact information, household details, references, and other information you provide on the application form, including any free-text responses. Applications submitted in Spanish are translated into English for review; both the original Spanish text and the English translation are retained.
• Volunteer applications: name, contact information, availability, skills, and any free-text responses you provide. Applications submitted in Spanish are handled the same way as adoption applications.
• Donations: if you choose to donate, payment is processed by our donation provider, Zeffy. We do not receive or store your payment card details. Zeffy provides us with your name, email address, donation amount, and any message you include.

Information collected automatically:

• Server logs: IP address, browser type, operating system, referring page, pages visited, and timestamps. This information is collected by our hosting provider as part of standard server operation.
• Language preference cookie: when you select English or Spanish, we set a first-party cookie named `pll_language` that remembers your choice for one year. This cookie contains only your language preference and no other information.
• Security cookies and login cookies: if you log into the site (administrators and authorized staff only), WordPress sets standard authentication cookies. These do not apply to visitors browsing the public site.

We do not use Google Analytics, advertising pixels, tracking scripts, or any third-party analytics or tracking technology. We do not set third-party cookies.

How we use your information

We use the information you provide to:

• Process and respond to adoption applications, volunteer applications, and general inquiries
• Match potential adopters with appropriate animals
• Coordinate volunteer activities and shelter events
• Send transactional emails (for example, confirming receipt of an application or following up on a specific inquiry)
• Maintain shelter records as required for our operations and as required by applicable law
• Improve our adoption process and website

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to anyone. We do not use your information for marketing or advertising purposes.

Who we share your information with

We share information only with the third parties necessary to operate our website and services:

• SiteGround — our website hosting provider. SiteGround processes all visitor traffic to our site, including standard server logs.
• Zeffy — our donation payment processor. When you make a donation, you are redirected to Zeffy’s platform, where Zeffy collects and processes your payment information under its own privacy policy.
• Resend — our transactional email provider. When you submit a contact form, adoption application, or volunteer application, the notification email to our staff is delivered through Resend.
• Google Fonts — we use Google Fonts to display the site’s typography. When your browser loads a page, it requests font files from Google, which receives your IP address and browser information as part of that request. Google Fonts does not set cookies.
• Unsplash — some images on our site are served from Unsplash, which receives your IP address and browser information when your browser loads those images.

We do not share information with the third-party sites we link to from our site (for example, Petfinder, Adopt-A-Pet, our social media accounts, or our online wish lists). When you click a link to one of those sites, your interaction with that site is governed by that site’s own privacy policy.

We may disclose information if required by law, court order, or to protect the safety of animals, staff, volunteers, or the public.

How long we keep your information

• Adoption and volunteer applications: retained indefinitely as part of our shelter recordkeeping.
• Contact form submissions: retained as long as needed to address your inquiry, and may be kept for our internal records thereafter.
• Donation records: retained as required for nonprofit financial recordkeeping and tax compliance.
• Server logs: retained by SiteGround according to their standard retention policies.

Your rights

You may contact us at info@fourlegsgoodnynj.org at any time to:

• Request a copy of the personal information we hold about you
• Request that we correct inaccurate information
• Request that we delete your information, subject to any recordkeeping obligations we may have

We will respond to your request within a reasonable time.

California residents

If you are a California resident, you have additional rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), including the right to know what personal information we collect about you, the right to request deletion, and the right not to be discriminated against for exercising your rights. Children’s privacy

Our site is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.

Security

We take reasonable measures to protect the information we collect. Our website is served over HTTPS, our hosting provider provides standard server-level security, and access to application data is limited to authorized staff and volunteers. No system is completely secure, however, and we cannot guarantee the absolute security of your information.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. Significant changes will be noted on the site or communicated directly when appropriate.
